I think I've found my perfect strategy for prisoners. I usually put them all in my own dungeon, taking out the most valuable ones, Inc nobles. nobles i donate to towns / fiefs to get + rep with them. I then keep the best units in my party as prisoners (as long as possible) then recruit them when possible to replace any lost main party troops.
